Local NBC affiliate in Plattsburgh, serving northeast New York state and western Vermont.

The station first aired in 1954 with the call letters WIRI. It was and still is affiliated with NBC. It also hade secondary affiliations with ABC until 1968 and with the defunct Dumont Network until 1956.

The new call letters started in 1956, upon a change in station ownership. Prior to then, WPTZ was located in Philadelphia, PA. That station became and remains KYW.

The current building on Cornelia Drive was occupied by the station in 2020. The main broadcast center remains in South Burlington, VT.

Of note is that WPTZ, along with WWNY in Watertown, were the first two US-based television stations carried by Canadian cable companies in the Ottawa/Montreal area starting in 1965.
