The Wawel Dragon statue spews real fire every five minutes. The six-metre tall statue is made by Bronislaw Chromy. It is a major tourist attraction and everyone waits to see when it spews fire. The statue is made on the basis of a legend. It is one of the most popular legends in Krakow, although it exists in several different versions.

Many years ago, King Krakus was regent in Krakow. At one point, a dragon moved into a cave under Wawel Hill, a hungry dragon because it ate the farmers' sheep. It was not satisfying and the king offered his daughter as a prize to the one who could kill the dragon. Many strong men tried to kill it, but all ended up being killed by the dragon themselves.

A cunning cobbler found a solution to get rid of the dragon.
He threw a sheep stuffed with sulfur to the dragon, which swallowed the sheep in one mouthful. However, it became so thirsty that it drank and drank from the Vistula river. It drank so much water that it finally exploded and that was the end of the dragon.
