"La iglesia de Santiago se encuentra en pleno casco histórico de Montoro, más exactamente en la encrucijada de las calles Santiago y Coracha. Según sus características arquitectónicas se fecha a mediados del siglo XVI, aunque no se han encontrado datos que lo atestigüen, por lo que se desconoce el autor. La fachada principal es de mediados del siglo XVI, aunque hay quien piensa que es de finales del XVII. La fachada lateral con el escudo del orden de Santiago está fechada en 1730. La mayoría de ella está construida con piedra molinaza y piedra natural, esta piedra natural esta utilizada para salvar el gran desnivel.
La iglesia presenta una planta rectangular de 10’5 x 22’5 metros que se divide en una nave, un presbiterio, la sacristía la Casa del Santero y un patio.
La nave tiene muros lisos pintados de blanco en la que destaca el arco toral que separa el presbiterio de la nave, en la nave también se encuentra la reforma llevada acabo en el siglo XVII en las yeserías barrocas del arco triunfal y de la cúpula de la capilla mayor. El presbiterio se cubre mediante cúpula sobre pechinas decoradas con los Cuatro Evangelistas y la cúpula con elementos figurativos y ornamentales de mediados del siglo XVIII. Una sacristía poco vistosa de forma rectangular en la parte oeste de la iglesia, un patio triangular y la Casa del Santero de pequeñas dimensiones con pilastras de piedra molinaza entrepaños de tapial y cubierta de madera terminada con teja cerámica en el este.
En el exterior se puede observar que la cúpula del presbiterio tiene forma de cubo cubierto de tejas de cerámica a cuatro aguas igual que la cubierta de la nave. En la fachada se encuentra la puerta principal de finales del siglo XVI compuesto por un arco de medio punto configurado por sillares de piedra encalados. Sobre el arco se desarrolla un arquitrabe, un friso sin decoración y una cornisa rematada por un frontón triangular en cuyo tímpano se encuentra un relieve y sobre el tres pináculos terminados en bolas. En el tejado se localiza una espadaña de finales del XVI formado por un arco de medio punto con pilastras a ambos lados y un frontón triangular. En la fachada lateral oeste se encuentra una puerta con un arco de medio punto con despiece de sillares que descansa sobre pilastras, en las enjutas del arco está adornado motivos florales y en medio del arco se encuentra resaltado el escudo de la orden de Santiago, por lo alto del arco se encuentra un frontón triangula en cuyo tímpano aparece el anagrama JHS y en sus vértices remates de bolas sobre pedestales. En la fachada lateral este se encuentra un gran basamento de grandes sillares de molinaza y piedra natural para salvar el desnivel del terreno, a esta zona dan salida dos huecos del presbiterio, una ventana abocinada cegada y un vano a ras del suelo también cegado, además una puerta de principios del siglo XX que da salida al patio. En el lateral opuesto se encuentra además de una puertas principal hay otra que da a la sacristía y una ventana en lo alto de esta.
Los primeros datos que aseguran su existencia son los que atestiguan la salida de la cofradía de la Santa Vera Cruz la más antigua de Montoro fundada por los franciscanos, sus primeras reglas fueron aprobadas el 16 de mayo de 1554 por el obispo Leopoldo de Austria, tío de Carlos I".

Above the arch there is an architrave, a frieze without decoration and a cornice topped by a triangular pediment on whose tympanum there is a relief and on it three pinnacles ending in balls. On the roof there is a belfry from the late 16th century formed by a semicircular arch with pilasters on both sides and a triangular pediment. On the west side façade there is a door with a semicircular arch with cut ashlars that rests on pilasters, in the spandrels of the arch it is decorated with floral motifs and in the middle of the arch the shield of the order of Santiago is highlighted, for At the top of the arch there is a triangular pediment on whose tympanum the JHS anagram appears and at its vertices there are ball finials on pedestals. On the east side façade there is a large plinth made of large milled ashlars and natural stone to overcome the unevenness of the terrain. Two openings in the presbytery give way to this area, a flared window blocked and an opening at ground level also blocked, in addition a door from the beginning of the 20th century that leads to the patio. On the opposite side, in addition to a main door, there is another that leads to the sacristy and a window at the top of it.
