Montgomery County, Kentucky courthouse, is in the Mt. Sterling Commercial Historic District on 1 Court St. The memorial is hanging on the wall just inside the doors on the south side of the County Courthouse.

When the Revolutionary War started, Kentucky was still part of Virginia. After the war concluded, many families came to Kentucky because they were given land warrants. Warrants were given as payment for military services. The allotment was determined by the soldier's rank and time of service.
