Marker Text:
In 1886, David Perry Hollingsworth bought 166 acres in the Thomas W. Nibbs Survey, and the Prairie View community soon developed Prairie View Primitive Baptist Church, Harmony Chapel Methodist Church and the Weeks School served the community. The earliest known burials here were William Rowe (1823-1889) and S.A. Loper (1828-1889). In 1903, David and Mary Catherine Hollingsworth officially deeded a three-acre graveyard. Notable gravestones include one Woodmen of the World marker, concrete slabs and borders, and military markers beginning with Pvt. Henry G. Oxford (1893-1918), who died in the sinking of the SS Tuscania during World War I. The Prairie View Cemetery Association maintains this remembrance of a historic Coryell County community.
