"La pila bautismal octogonal fue finalizada en el 1246, obra de Guido Bigarelli.
El centro de la pila está adornado por una estatua de San Juan Bautista de Italo Griselli. Antiguamente el agua de lluvia entraba por el óculo central de la cúpula, donde hoy se encuentra la estatua.
Una curiosidad del baptisterio:
El baptisterio posee un extraño efecto acústico debido a su forma y por el material utilizado.
Gracias al espacio que se forma entre las dos cúpulas, la interna y la externa, se crea un increíble efecto de resonancia acústica, lo que comúnmente conocemos como Eco.
El eco se esparce por el espacio, como una onda continua, subiendo de tonalidad hasta el punto de sugerir la presencia de un coro angelical.
Para que el visitador pueda apreciar este curioso efecto, el personal a cargo del baptisterio hace una demostración cada hora."
