"Esta iglesia presenta un claro parecido estructural con la parroquial de Santiago, aunque es más sencilla. Fue construida en los años 1520-1540, en sustitución de la primitiva mezquita, rematando las últimas obras en los años siguientes el albañil Francisco Roldán y el carpintero Bartolomé Meneses. Posteriormente ha sufrido diversas reformas y ampliaciones, como las dos capillas de la derecha, el coro o la interesante bovedita delante de la capilla bautismal. Después de 1940 se realizaron importantes obras de consolidación y se abrieron las estrechas ventanas del presbiterio. Su fábrica es de cajones de tapial encintados de ladrillo. Las elegantes arquerías apuntadas de su interior distribuyen el espacio en tres naves y capilla mayor ochavada. Las cubiertas son buenas armaduras mudéjares, la de la capilla mayor con bellos adornos de lacería mudéjar. En su exterior, la sobriedad de la torre contrasta con la bella portada lateral, obra pionera del Renacimiento guadijeño. Perteneció a la iglesia anterior y muestra una clara relación con el castillo-palacio de La Calahorra; la firma del cantero aparece a la derecha del remate de la portada: “maese iacobe”. Ostenta en el friso los emblemas y escudo de los Reyes Católicos y debajo el de García de Quijada, primer obispo de Guadix. Entre su imaginería y pinturas, la mayoría modernas, destaca un Cristo atado a la columna, de la escuela de Pablo de Rojas, de principios del XVII."

"This church presents a clear structural resemblance to the parish church of Santiago, although it is simpler.
