The early years of ‘Saturday Night Live’ gave us many memorable characters including Baba Wawa, Roseanne Roseannadanna and Emily Litella, all created by original cast member Gilda Radner. Her stint on ‘Saturday Night Live’ lasted from its inception in 1975 to 1980, netting her an Emmy in 1978.

Gilda Radner was born and grew up in Detroit, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan. She began her acting career after a move to Toronto where she became a member of The Second City comedy troupe. In 1975 she rose to international prominence as a member of the ‘Not Ready for Prime Time Players’ on the wildly successful ‘Saturday Night Live.’

After ‘Saturday Night Live,’ Radner dabbled in movies and Broadway plays including a moderately successful one-woman show called ‘Gilda Radner - Live from New York.’ Her career, however, was cut tragically short when she succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1989 at the age of 42. She is laid to rest at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford, CT. Her autobiography is titled ‘It’s Always Something,’ a signature quote from her most famous character: Roseanne Roseannadanna.
