"La iglesia de San Francisco, junto con el convento de los Franciscanos, fue mandada construir en el año 1490, por los Reyes Católicos, pero no se haría efectivo hasta el año siguiente. Esta antigüedad la denotan sin duda sus estructuras. Ambas construcciones están ubicadas teóricamente en una antigua parcela perteneciente al caudillo nazarí Hamete. Junto con otras edificaciones religiosas, la iglesia y el asentamiento en el convento de la orden franciscana suponía un impulso a la evangelización de la población mudéjar, siendo esta la primera iglesia de la ciudad tras la conquista.
Su portada está protagonizada por una extrema sencillez a través de elementos del gótico."

"The church of San Francisco, together with the Franciscan convent, was ordered to be built in the year 1490, by the Catholic Monarchs, but it would not be made effective until the following year. This antiquity is undoubtedly denoted by its structures. Both constructions are theoretically located on an old plot belonging to the Nasrid leader Hamete. Along with other religious buildings, the church and the settlement in the convent of the Franciscan order represented a boost to the evangelization of the Mudejar population, this being the first church in the city after the conquest.
Its cover features extreme simplicity through Gothic elements."
