"El entorno de la Iglesia de Santiago ofrece uno de los rincones más sugestivos y de mayor encanto del viejo Guadix. La iglesia fue diseñada por el gran arquitecto y escultor Diego de Siloé, el cual, partiendo de un modelo de templo tradicional mudéjar, supo proyectar unos elementos de especial novedad, como fueron su monumental portada, el remate de las naves laterales en curva y la armadura de la capilla mayor.
El exterior ofrece un atractivo especial por la blancura de sus muros, la disposición quebrada de las capillas y naves, que motiva el elegante quiebro de los tejados, el chapitel cerámico de la torre y la monumental portada renacentista.
A destacar es “la concha”, que adorna varios rincones y que bien podría ser símbolo del Apóstol Santiago, que pasó por nuestra ciudad".

"The surroundings of the Church of Santiago offer one of the most suggestive and charming corners of old Guadix. The church was designed by the great architect and sculptor Diego de Siloé, who, starting from a model of a traditional Mudejar temple, knew project some elements of special novelty, such as its monumental doorway, the finishing of the curved side naves and the armor of the main chapel.
The exterior offers a special attraction due to the whiteness of its walls, the broken arrangement of the chapels and naves, which motivates the elegant break of the roofs, the ceramic spire of the tower and the monumental Renaissance doorway.
To highlight is “the shell”, which adorns several corners and could well be a symbol of the Apostle Santiago, who passed through our city."
