The mention in 1275 of the monk and sacristan of "Santa María de la Vega" makes it clear that at that time it was a Monastery. The spiritual function of the first moments is confirmed by the appearance of Romanesque remains. The hermitage is mentioned for the first time in 1520 in the will of Teresa Tubilla.

Throughout the centuries different works were undertaken, the importance of those carried out at the beginning of the s. XVIII is reflected in the powers granted to D. Juan Redondo on June 3, 1699, to lease and collect the pastures to finance the works of the hermitage, a date that appears on the niche that is on the cover. In 1974 the ruined hermitage was cataloged. In the 80s of the s. XX the building is restored, inaugurating it on June 25, 1987.

The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Vega is located on the outskirts of the town in a south-east direction.
