En este reloj de sol tú eres el gnomon, tu propia sombra indica la hora solar. Si no llega a tocar las cifras horarias, no te preocupes, puedes prolongar tu sombra levantando un brazo verticalmente por encima de la cabeza.
En este tipo de reloj horizontal las horas están trazadas sobre una elipse de gran tamaño, cuyo eje mayor está orientado en la dirección, Este-Oeste. En la placa situada en el centro, sobre el eje menor de la elipse, aparecen los meses del año. Para hacer una lectura correcta deberemos situarnos sobre la fecha en que estamos y nuestra sombre nos marcará la hora.
