En la puerta recayente al pasaje de la Catedral hay dos pequeñas ventanillas enrejadas a través de la cual puede verse el interior cuando la Basílica se encuentra cerrada. A través de ella puede contemplarse la Virgen iluminada en su altar. A destacar los altorrelieves en bronce del escultor Octavio Vicent de factura moderna que relatan diversos hechos relacionados con la historia de la Virgen de los Desamparados. Es una obra póstuma que fueron donados por el artista días antes de su muerte en 1998. En el 2005 fueron colocadas por su discípulo, y fundidor de los mismos, Ismael García.
Explicación de los paneles de bronce: de izquierda a derecha y de arriba a abajo.
El primer panel quiere representar la fiesta de la Virgen de los Desamparados que se celebra el segundo domingo de mayo. Aparece la imagen de la Virgen con los distintos estamentos eclesiásticos y municipales que intervienen en la procesión.
El segundo panel es tal vez de las más emotivas escenas de todos los bronces que figuran en esta puerta, ya que representa el momento en que los niños son izados ante la imagen de la Virgen de los Desamparados, poniéndolos bajo su amparo y protección. En este panel figura en el ángulo inferior derecho la firma del autor: Octavio Vicent.
El tercer panel refleja el momento en que el papa Benedicto XIII aprueba la fundación de la Cofradía de la Virgen de los Desamparados en 1414. La escena que se desarrolla en la ciudad castellonense de Morella, la preside además del Papa, el rey de Aragón Fernando de Antequera y el santo valenciano San Vicente Ferrer.
En el cuarto panel vemos la escena en la que el padre Jofré cuando iba camino de la Catedral defiende a un loco del ataque de los niños, que al grito de al loco, al loco, lo persiguen y los apedrean. Esta escena era muy habitual en las calles de la ciudad.
El quinto panel representa la asistencia de la Cofradía de la Virgen de los Desamparados a los reos condenados a muerte. Los condenados son acompañados por los miembros de la Cofradía que les dan asistencia moral y espiritual.
En el sexto panel se ha querido representar el Hospital dels Folls con la asistencia a los enfermos por parte de los cofrades de la Virgen de los Desamparados.
En el séptimo panel podemos ver como la imagen de la Virgen de los Desamparados en su representación más antigua como imagen yacente es colocada sobre los ajusticiados para que le acompañe hasta el lugar de la sepultura. Es el origen de la actual imagen de la Virgen.
En el último panel se representa la leyenda de la realización de la imagen de la Virgen de los Desamparados por unos ángeles que se hacían pasar por peregrinos.
