[EN] “The Arévalo History Museum, also known as Arevalorum, is located in the house of the Sexmos, the former medieval site of the council house. It depends on the Arévalo City Council.

The building that houses the Museum is one of the most prominent in Plaza de la Villa and one of the most modified. Its origin is not entirely clear, although it is known that from the beginning it had different public uses such as the headquarters of the Council and the headquarters of the Sexmos of the Earth or the headquarters of Justice. In the 16th century it was the house of the Council, and in 1519 it became the meeting center of the Sexmeros until this headquarters was moved to the Plaza del Real in 1577 and the Plaza de la Villa building remained as accommodation for the Sexmers during their stays in the villa. In the 19th century, the administrative organization of the Land in Sexmos disappeared and its buildings became municipal property. Since then it has had different uses such as municipal schools, municipal library, notarial archive and workshop school. Since August 2011, it has been the headquarters of the History Museum.

Collections

The Museum has seven rooms in which around a hundred cultural assets related to the history of Arévalo are displayed: pieces from the Chalcolithic, Roman, medieval and modern times; photographs of the Arevalan monuments taken in the 20th century and models of significant buildings in the city such as the old Royal Palace, the Arévalo Castle or the Sedeño palace.

In addition, the museum has a conference room in which a documentary about the history of Arévalo is continuously projected, a room dedicated to Autun (a French city twinned with Arévalo since 2005) and a temporary exhibition room.

As part of its strategy to fulfill its mission of "mediating between the history of Arévalo and the visitor", the Arévalo History Museum organizes educational activities and lecture series.”
