"Au XIIème siècle, les moines de l’abbaye de Cîteaux, propriétaires du Clos-Vougeot grâce à des dons de riches seigneurs bourguignons et d’achats faits par l’abbaye, y cultivent la vigne. Ils édifient un mur tout autour des précieuses terres du Clos de Vougeot, qui délimite encore aujourd’hui cette appellation prestigieuse.

Afin de bénéficier d’un lieu pour vinifier leurs raisins, ils édifient un vaste bâtiment connu sous le nom de cellier de Vougeot, dès 1164. L’édifice, tel que nous pouvons encore le voir aujourd’hui a été complété au XVIe siècle par des logis au style Renaissance (actuel château).

Depuis 1934, le Château du Clos Vougeot est le siège de la « Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin », qui a trouvé là un cadre digne de son action de promotion des vins de Bourgogne à travers le monde.

17 fois par an, les Chevaliers du Tastevin reçoivent des convives lors de soirées de haute tenue appelées Chapitres. De nouveaux chevaliers sont intronisés et un dîner dans la grande tradition de convivialité bourguignonne rassemble 600 personnes dans la cuverie du château."
