"The church of Santa María de Cocentaina (Alicante Province) was founded in the 13th century, was rebuilt in the 16th century and rebuilt in 1666 in the Baroque style, with reforms and extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries.
It is a church with a single nave with five sections and covered with a barrel vault with transverse arches and lunettes. It has side chapels on its sides between buttresses covered with hollow vaults. The transept dome, on pendentives, is flat from the inside and has, in the Baroque style, a perimeter corridor that is repeated in the nave and transept.

The temple is illuminated through the dome, from the foot wall and from the gospel side of the transept, with abundant lighting.

In the presbytery there is a hollow dome with a fresco where the typical baroque sky is represented in trompe l'oeil, among fake architectures, with Eternal Glory open on the Assumption of the Virgin. At the ends of the cross, other grisaille frescoes represent the virtues.

The Communion chapel is located on the epistle side. Rectangular in plan, it is covered with a barrel vault with lunettes, divided into six sections, with its own small cover. It has a dome on pendentives and a dome that illuminates the interior.

Outside it has two covers: one, classical, on the gospel side and another baroque on the front, both made of stone.

The bell tower has five bodies topped by an ornament with pinnacles, fluted pilasters and acanthus leaves."
