A rapidly growing population in Suhl led to the decision to build a new church. Between 1731 and 1739, the second Suhl parish church was built alongside the main church. It was built by the Königshof master mason Johann Michael Schmidt and the carpenter Johann Sebastian Gerbig and consecrated on September 20, 1739. At that time it was located on the western outskirts of the town between two town gates, therefore the church tower with the representative entrance portal on the east side was oriented towards the city centre and the chancel opposite was oriented towards the west.
The distinctive three-story church tower has a tail dome with a lantern and is crowned by a weather vane in the shape of the Polish eagle - the sovereign at that time was Elector Friedrich August I of Saxony and King of Poland. In the church tower hang three bronze bells, which were cast in 1763 by the Ulrich brothers in Apolda.
The pulpit altar was created by Johann Heinrich Reinhardt in 1736. The pulpit in the centre of the altar is decorated with small flames referring to the Holy Spirit and a triangle with a wreath of twelve rays referring to the divine Trinity and perfection.
