De Reevesluis keert het water vanuit het noorden. De sluis gaat onder meer dicht op het moment dat er hoogwater vanaf de IJssel via de nieuwe hoogwatergeul Reevediep, een nieuwe waterverbinding tussen de IJssel en het Drontermeer, wordt afgevoerd. Naast de hoogwaterkerende functie houdt het sluizencomplex ook het verschil in waterpeil in stand tussen het Drontermeer en het Vossemeer.

De deur van het benedenhoofd weegt 43 ton en heeft een afmeting van 12,5 x 7,7 meter. De deur van het bovenhoofd weegt 51 ton en heeft een afmeting van 12,5 x 9,7 meter.

De Reevesluis is gebouwd door aannemerscombinatie Isala Delta, bestaande uit Boskalis en Van Hattum en Blankevoort. De afgelopen jaren is er hard gewerkt aan de Reevesluis in het Drontermeer. De bouwwerkzaamheden van de schut- en spuisluis zijn gereed. Begin september 2021 is het sluiscomplex overgedragen aan de eindbeheerder Rijkswaterstaat. Op 4 oktober 2021 is de sluis officieel geopend door Barbara Visser, minister van Infrastructuur en waterstaat.

Over de Reevedam en de sluis is een wandel- en fietsverbinding aangelegd, die 2 juli 2021 werd geopend. Fietsers kunnen sindsdien via de sluis van de zuidelijke Reevediepdijk op de Flevolandse Drontermeerdijk komen.

The Reevesluis diverts the water from the north. The lock closes when high water is discharged from the IJssel through the new high-water channel Reevediep, a new water connection between the IJssel and the Drontermeer. A walking and cycling connection has been constructed over the Reevedam and the lock, which was opened on 2 July 2021. Since then, cyclists have been able to access the Flevolandse Drontermeerdijk via the lock of the southern Reevediepdijk.
