[FR] Doit son nom au lieu de résidence du gouverneur militaire. Le plan de la tour primitive est original mais il n'est plus visible et aucun document actuellement connu ne permet de dater sa construction. Elle comportait quatre niveaux, dont le premier devait être voûté et l'ensemble était surmonté d'une charpente couverte d'ardoises. Dans une seconde période, une enveloppe extérieure a été adjointe à cette tour primitive. La forme de cette tour réduit l'effet des tirs directs et rend plus difficile le travail de sape.

Comme la tour du Major, sa position stratégique à l'entrée de la place forte est l'explication des nombreuses modifications sur l'ouvrage. Début XVIII siècle, un éperon (avancée défensive) est ajouté à la base de la tour. Au XIX siècle, on réaménage l'intérieur et on établit un colombier militaire s'ouvrant sur la demi-lune. Ces derniers travaux ne laissent subsister de l'ouvrage primitif qu'un escalier à vis et un conduit de cheminée dont la partie supérieure est encore visible sur la terrasse.

[EN] Named after the military governor's residence. The plan of the original tower is original, but it is no longer visible, and there are no known documents to date its construction. It had four levels, the first of which was vaulted, and was topped by a slate-covered roof structure. In a second period, an outer shell was added to this primitive tower. The shape of this tower reduces the effect of direct fire and makes undermining more difficult.

Like the Major's tower, its strategic position at the entrance to the stronghold explains the many modifications made to the structure. In the early 18th century, a spur was added to the base of the tower. In the 19th century, the interior was refurbished and a military dovecote was built, opening onto the half-moon. All that remains of the original structure is a spiral staircase and a chimney flue, the upper part of which can still be seen on the terrace.
