The city of San Marino boasts sixteen public sculptures that comprise a so-called ‘open air museum.’ Nine of these were featured on a set of postage stamps issued by the small republic in 1987. Making the cut was this abstract piece by Italian sculptor Luciano Minguzzi.
There seems to be some disagreement among various sources regarding the name of this sculpture, if there is one. I’ve seen it referred to as ‘two figures’ or ‘two women’ or even ‘pieta’ or 'Gli Amanti.' In any event, it’s one of seven public sculptures located in the crossbowman’s quarry just below the government palace.
