This sign originally read:

"ATTENTION
ALL TROUT
MUST BE
SIGNED OUT
AT FOOD STAND"

Time and vandals removed letters and now it reads

"ALL TROUT
BE
SIGNED OUT
AT FOOD STAND"

The concept of signing out a fish seems comical, even more so when some of the letters are removed.

There is an actual reason for this, however. The Boyer’s Junction Community Center owns Jim Moore Park, which has 40 acres of woods and a small pond that it stocked with fish. Since the BJCC stocks the fish and pays for it with membership dues and donations, they need to keep track of a "fish inventory" so that they never run out. Sometimes the City of Topton also provides fish, but the BJCC provides most. These are usually trout, but lately the BJCC has stocked grass carp, so clear the grassy vegetation from the pond. Apparently that worked well in the past couple years.

So, that's why you have to sign out fish that you catch and take home to eat. I still wonder if you need to sign out a grass carp?
