Denkmalatlas Niedersachsen (
visit link) reads:
"Situated on a hill, ostentatious and vaulted hall church of two bays with frontal west tower and 5/8 chancel end, built in rubble stones. To the south, a more recent addition of a hall church in brick with an indented, straight-closing chancel, thus turning the old church into a porch. The tower is rectangular and three-storied, with entrance, on the upper floor small round-arched double arcades, on the edges ashlars, under steep eight-pitched tent roof. The northern outer wall of the nave renewed in brick. At the nave and choir buttresses, in the choir pointed arch windows, today without tracery. Inside, tower and nave with cross-ribbed vaults on wall supports, in the chancel formerly on brackets, only rudiments remain, today flat-roofed. To the new building two round arch arcades. The new building has a flat roof, the ceiling is raised in the central part.
In the eastern nave vaulting, figurative murals from around 1500. Baroque furnishings, including altarpiece from 1766 by W. Weber, designed by Johann Conrad Schlaun, the figures attributed to Joseph Geitner. Tree pulpit by J. Schagemann, 1805/1808.
Mentioned in the 12th century as a branch church of Meppen. Nave probably from the 2nd half of the 13th century, choir and vault probably around 1500, west tower 1517. Choir remodeled in 1766. Extended to the south in 1938, architect: Johann Kamps."
