The following information about the department is from their website:
The Federal Way Fire Department has nearly 60 years of service to the greater Federal Way community. What started with one engine in a barn and a handful of volunteers grew through the years as the district merged with its original neighbors in King County Fire Districts 22, 30 and 32.
Today, with a total staff of 130, there are nearly 100 firefighter/EMTs ready to respond in a moments notice from any of six fire stations located strategically throughout the 34-square mile district. The department teaches fire prevention and provides disaster preparedness and injury prevention education to citizens. It also works closely with local businesses to provide annual business safety surveys.
With its Class 2 Fire Rating, Federal Way citizens enjoy some of the lowest fire insurance rates throughout the state. The Federal Way Fire Department was the first fire district to earn such a high mark from the State Ratings Bureau.
The department is part of the King County Emergency Medical Services system, an internationally acclaimed program providing outstanding emergency treatment utilizing paramedics and emergency medical technicians in a tiered response. The King County system saves more lives of cardiac patients than any other program in the country. Rated one of the best in the state, the Federal Way Fire Department takes a proactive approach to fire prevention for businesses and residents.
