This cemetery is the parish cemetery for St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 280 East Main Street Smithtown. The cemetery is located on the former site of the first church for this parish which was dedicated on 17 March 1840. The second church building on this site burned to the ground in 1927 and a large white cross marks the spot in the cemetery. The Reverend Clarence Murphy was the second pastor of the parish and served the community for 22 years. He died on May 10, 1951 and was buried at the approximate site of the altar of the St. Patrick Church structure that was destroyed in the 1927 fire. The church's new location was dedicated in 2003.
