The roadside marker recounts how two War of 1812 soldiers perished while on a march from Plattsburgh to Sacketts Harbor.

The gravesite is located a short distance from the marker. Information from the gravesite identifies the two soldiers as Elijah Sackett, who died April 13, 1813 and an Unknown soldier, who died April 7, 1813.
