Temple Newsam was a stately home with large landscaped grounds surrounding it. Parts of the grounds have a formal garden layout including this section that within the walled garden was grown vegetables and less hardy species of plants.

The vegetables were used to supply the house with food whilst other plants were grown for their decorative purposes.

The walls were designed so that fires could be lit and flues within the walls carried the heat around the wall.

The most delicate plants were grown in the green houses that stretched along one wall of the garden.

Temple Newsam is now owned an run by Leeds City Council. The park and gardens areas are free to access, though there are charges to visit the house itself and a working farm.

There is disabled parking close to one of the entrances to the walled garden together with a step free access point.

The visitor book is inside the entrance to the green house, farthest to the right as you look at it.

Inside the green house are various collections of plants, information about how the garden was used in the past, and a display of old gardening equipment.
