The Invergordon Parish Church was originally built as a Free Church. The new church was built after the schism known as the Disruption of 1843, when many ministers left the Church of Scotland. The current stone church was designed by the architectural partnership of Alexander Ross and William Cumming Joass in the Gothic Revival style. Construction began in 1859 and the church was completed in 1861. Link
The church celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2011.
The front of the church has a projecting tower with an entrance at the base which is framed by a Gothic arch. Above is a large Gothic style window with three tall windows at the bottom and a circular pattern of tracery near the top. The next level is a three side clock tower. Then a belfry with three tall louvered Gothic windows on each side. The tower is topped with a tall octagonal spire with dormer windows alternating with triangular quoins on the sides. The spire is topped with a weather vane.
The main block has a gable roof. Gables project from the front of the sides of the church. Each gable has a 5 part Gothic window. Beyond the projection are stone columns two pairs of stained glass windows. The transept then projects from the main block. The gale ends of the transept has three small Gothic windows below a large multipart Gothic window above. Each transept has an auxiliary entrance.
