A group of Rangers were attacked here and killed, by Native Americans who were helping the British Army.

Captain William Phillips and 11 men of his militia company were captured by Native Americans on July 16, 1780. Ten men were killed here and were buried later by a search party. Captain Phillips and son Elijah, taken prisoner, were freed by British at the end of the Revolution.
