[FR] Symbole des libertés et de la franchise des bourgeois, acquise par la charte de 1232, ce beffroi de grès rose, s'élevant à 45 mètres de hauteur, a été édifié de 1451 à 1455. A l'époque, un sonneur articulé, prénommé Jacquemart, frappait les heures.
Deux incendies devaient ravager le monument : l'un en 1655; l'autre, pour le premier anniversaire de la victoire en 1946, détruisit tout le campanile.
Les automates au nombre de 4 depuis le XVIIè siècle, martèlent les cloches toutes les 15 minutes : les parents sonnent les heures et les enfants les quarts. Ils ont été refaits en cuivre en 1947.
Accompagnant Jacquemart, Jacquette la mère, Jacqueline et Jacquelin les enfants, mesurent respectivement 1,80 mètre et 1 mètre de hauteur.

The automatons, 4 in number since the 17th century, hammer the bells every 15 minutes: the parents ring the hours and the children the quarters. They were rebuilt in copper in 1947.
