Beschrijving

Georiënteerd neogotisch bedehuis met basilicale opstand omgeven door struikgewas. Ten noorden van de kerk parking. De zuidelijke gevelwand wordt gemarkeerd door verscheidene oude grafstenen en -monumenten van het oude kerkhof. De westgevel van de zuidelijke beuk met grafsteen van Charles Vander Stichele en echtgenote en kinderen (onder andere Alphons Vander Stichele), een familie die een belangrijke rol heeft gespeeld in de geschiedenis van Gullegem. Zuidelijke zijbeuk, tussen travee één en twee, gemarkeerd door Christus aan het kruis onder houten afdakje. In de 15de en 16de eeuw was de kerk een belangrijk bedevaartsoord voor Onze-Lieve-Vrouw.

Historiek

Reeds in 1105 is er sprake van een kerk, het patronaatsrecht is dan in handen van abdij van Sint-Maarten (Doornik).

1469: werken aan de toren.

1581: het koor wordt beschadigd door de geuzen.

Circa 1618: bouw van de laatgotische driebeukige hallenkerk met centrale achtzijdige toren, zie cartularium van de Guldenbergabdij.

1665: herstel van het dak.

1787: ingrijpende verbouwingswerken aan de kerk: aan de westzijde wordt een nieuw koor gebouwd met halfronde apsis, nieuwe ingang ter hoogte van de toren, oude koor wordt verbouwd tot portaal.

1788: bouw nieuw portaal.

1794: interieur van de kerk wordt beschadigd, onder meer altaar en tabernakel worden vernield door Franse troepen.

1795: een deel van het dak wordt vernield door storm.

1823-1833: herstellen van het dak.

1849: tweede ingrijpende verbouwingsfase naar plannen van architect Pierre Nicolas Croquison (Kortrijk). De drie beuken worden 17 meter verlengd, de toren en het oude koor worden afgebroken en er wordt een nieuwe toren opgetrokken. Opvallend was het niveauverschil tussen de daken van de oude kerk en het nieuwe deel.

1957: het oude dak en het dak van 1849 worden op dezelfde hoogte gebracht.

Oriented neo-gothic house of worship with basilical elevation surrounded by scrubland. North of the church parking lot. The southern facade wall is marked by several ancient tombstones and monuments from the old cemetery. The west facade of the southern aisle with the tombstone of Charles Vander Stichele and his wife and children (including Alphons Vander Stichele), a family that played an important role in the history of Gullegem. South aisle, between bays one and two, marked by Christ on the cross under a wooden shed. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the church was an important pilgrimage site for Our Lady.

History

There is already a church in 1105, the patronage right is then in the hands of the abbey of Saint Martin (Tournai).

1469: work on the tower.

1581: the choir is damaged by the Beggars.

Circa 1618: construction of the late Gothic three-aisled hall church with central eight-sided tower, see cartulary of the Guldenberg abbey.

1665: repair of the roof.

1787: major renovations to the church: a new choir is built on the west side with a semi-circular apse, a new entrance at the level of the tower, the old choir is converted into a portal.

1788: build new portal.

1794: interior of the church is damaged, altar and tabernacle, among others, are destroyed by French troops.

1795: part of the roof is destroyed by storm.

1823-1833: Repairing the roof.

1849: second major renovation phase according to plans by architect Pierre Nicolas Croquison (Kortrijk). The three naves will be extended by 17 metres, the tower and the old choir will be demolished and a new tower will be built. The difference in level between the roofs of the old church and the new part was striking.

1957: the old roof and the roof of 1849 are brought to the same height.

Lieu de culte néo-gothique orienté à élévation basilicale entouré de garrigue. Au nord du parking de l'église. Le mur de la façade sud est marqué par plusieurs pierres tombales anciennes et monuments de l'ancien cimetière. La façade ouest du bas-côté sud avec la pierre tombale de Charles Vander Stichele et de sa femme et de ses enfants (dont Alphons Vander Stichele), une famille qui a joué un rôle important dans l'histoire de Gullegem. Nef sud, entre les travées une et deux, marquée par le Christ en croix sous un hangar en bois. Aux XVe et XVIe siècles, l'église était un lieu de pèlerinage important pour Notre-Dame.

Histoire

Il existe déjà une église en 1105, le droit de patronage est alors entre les mains de l'abbaye de Saint Martin (Tournai).

1469 : travaux sur la tour.

1581 : le chœur est endommagé par les Gueux.

Vers 1618 : construction de l'église-halle gothique tardif à trois nefs avec tour centrale à huit pans, voir cartulaire de l'abbaye de Guldenberg.

1665 : réfection de la toiture.

1787 : rénovations majeures de l'église : un nouveau chœur est construit côté ouest avec une abside semi-circulaire, une nouvelle entrée est au niveau de la tour, l'ancien chœur est transformé en portail.

1788 : construction d'un nouveau portail. 1794 : l'intérieur de l'église est endommagé, l'autel et le tabernacle, entre autres, sont détruits par les troupes françaises.

1795 : une partie du toit est détruite par la tempête.

1823-1833 : Réfection de la toiture.

1849 : deuxième grande phase de rénovation selon les plans de l'architecte Pierre Nicolas Croquison (Courtrai). Les trois nefs seront allongées de 17 mètres, la tour et l'ancien chœur seront démolis et une nouvelle tour sera construite. La différence de niveau entre les toits de l'ancienne église et la nouvelle partie était frappante.

1957 : l'ancienne toiture et la toiture de 1849 sont ramenées à la même hauteur.
