"Le 12 novembre 1789, l'Assemblée nationale décrète la création d'une municipalité dans chaque ville, bourg ou paroisse. La commune de Montmartre voit le jour en mars 1790, non sans difficulté : en effet, la construction du mur de l'octroi vient de couper le village en deux. Le Haut-Montmartre élit son propre conseil, présidé par un farouche partisan de la séparation, entérinée le 22 juin 1790 ; la municipialité de Paris absorbe le Bas-Montmartre. Né à Rouen, Félix Desportes habite place du Tertre depuis 1788 : animé d'un grand zèle patriotique, ce gestionnaire avisé transforme son domicilie en hôtel de la Mairie, et, jusqu'en avril 1793, établit solidement l'institution munuicipale. Devenu père en mai 1791, il donne à sa fille les prénoms de Flore, Pierrette, Montmartre..."

Born in Rouen, Félix Desportes lives Place du Tertre since 1788: driven by great patriotic zeal, this shrewd manager transformed his home into the Hôtel de la Mairie, and solidly established the municipal institution until April 1793. Becoming a father in May 1791, he gave his daughter the first names of Flore, Pierrette, Montmartre..."
