Maroilles fut le théâtre de combats le 25 août 1914, mais resta ensuite aux mains des Allemands jusqu'à sa prise par la 25e division le 5 novembre 1918. Le cimetière communal de Maroilles contient 20 sépultures du Commonwealth de la Première Guerre mondiale.
