The marker is made of metal. It's base and print are brown in color. It was erected by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and presented by the Society of Boonesborough. Marker is on Boonesboro Road (Kentucky Route 388), on the left when traveling south. Marker is located in Fort Boonesborough State Park.

Col. Richard Callaway-Born in Caroline County, Virginia, in June, 1722, Richard Callaway served in French and Indian wars and as a colonel in Revolutionary War. He was a member of Virginia House of Burgesses and one of the first settlers of Boonesborough. Callaway was killed by Indians, Mar. 8, 1780, while building this ferry. He is buried near here. Presented by Society of Boonesborough.
