El museo de Palencia (antes conocido como arqueológico), está ubicado en la llamada casa del Cordón (fachada está rematada por un cordón franciscano).
Fue un antiguo palacio del s. XVI de estilo renacentista, único en la capital (es el único que se conserva, tras un arduo proceso de re-construcción en el que primeramente se demolió su interior conservando la fachada).
El exterior conserva su trazado original y destaca su cordón franciscano que, a modo de alfiz, decora la puerta junto con dos escudos muy bien conservados. A juzgar por estos escudos, el edificio perteneció al mayorazgo de Isabel Rodríguez Monroy y su esposo, el relator del Consejo de Castilla Francisco Núñez de Paz.
El interior sorprende por conservar columnas antiguas pero sobre todo por tener un estilo completamente contemporáneo; y es que es toda una intención de diálogo entre lo viejo y lo nuevo, obra del arquitecto Luis Arranz.
Por dentro sus tres plantas visitables están estructuradas como si el museo fuera un yacimiento arqueológico.
Las colecciones del Museo recorren la secuencia arqueológica de la provincia desde el Paleolítico hasta la Edad Moderna, con especial incidencia en el mundo vacceo, siendo particularmente rico en objetos del mundo romano, debiendo señalarse los yacimientos de Herrera, la propia ciudad de Palencia o el mundo de las villas tardorromanas, con el mosaico de Dueñas.
A época visigoda se adscriben algunas piezas de San Juan de Baños y Herrera de Pisuerga. El mundo medieval de los siglos XI al XIII está representado por piezas muy significativas como los capiteles de Frómista, los sarcófagos de Benevívere y Santa María de la Vega, y un conjuntos de objetos, esencialmente cerámicos, que alcanzan los siglos XVI-XVII, época a que pertenecen también la serie de piezas heráldicas expuestas.
Por último, una sala de arte sacro, exponiendo el retablo del Hospital de Los Palmeros de Amusco, un cantoral procedente de Calabazanos y otros objetos de carácter litúrgico, completa el discurso expositivo del museo.

The Palencia museum (formerly known as the archaeological museum) is located in the so-called Cordon house (the façade is topped by a Franciscan cordon).
It was an old palace of the s. Renaissance-style 16th century, unique in the capital (it is the only one that has been preserved, after an arduous re-construction process in which its interior was first demolished, preserving the façade).
The exterior preserves its original layout and its Franciscan cord stands out, which, as an alfiz, decorates the door along with two well-preserved shields. Judging by these shields, the building belonged to the eldership of Isabel Rodríguez Monroy and her husband, the rapporteur of the Council of Castilla Francisco Núñez de Paz.
The interior is surprising for preserving old columns but above all for having a completely contemporary style; and it is that it is all an intention of dialogue between the old and the new, the work of the architect Luis Arranz.
Inside, its three visitable floors are structured as if the museum were an archaeological site.
The Museum's collections cover the archaeological sequence of the province from the Paleolithic to the Modern Age, with a special emphasis on the Vaccean world, being particularly rich in objects from the Roman world, noting the sites of Herrera, the city of Palencia itself or the world of late Roman villas, with the Dueñas mosaic.
Some pieces from San Juan de Baños and Herrera de Pisuerga date back to the Visigothic period. The medieval world from the 11th to the 13th centuries is represented by very significant pieces such as the capitals of Frómista, the sarcophagi of Benevívere and Santa María de la Vega, and a group of objects, essentially ceramic, dating from the 16th-17th centuries, the period to which also belong the series of heraldic pieces exposed.
Lastly, a sacred art room, exhibiting the altarpiece of the Hospital de Los Palmeros in Amusco, a hymnal from Calabazanos and other objects of a liturgical nature, completes the museum's exhibition discourse.
