[EN] “St George's Anglican Church, also known as St Georg’s Anglican-Episcopalian Church or simply British Chapel, is an Anglican church located at number 43 Calle de Núñez de Balboa in the Recoletos neighborhood, in the district of Salamanca.

The start of an Anglican temple dates back to 1864, when the Reverend William Campbell was appointed to the British embassy here, he performed services in a small room in a private house, as a small chaplain assigned to the embassy.

A few years later the British and Foreign Bible Society provided larger premises. In 1900, the coach house of the former British embassy was converted into a church. Later, largely due to the generous donation of Mr. Edgar Allen, and other contributions from the English-speaking community, the current temple was built in 1923, designed by the Spanish architect Teodoro de Anasagasti, who mixed the styles of the traditional Spanish architecture (Mudejar and Spanish Romanesque) with specifically Anglican forms. The stained glass windows in the presbytery represent Saint George, patron saint of England and Saint James the Greater, patron saint of Spain, among others.

The church was officially dedicated in March 1925. Since then, it has grown to become an international English-speaking community with a congregation of some 26 nationalities.”
