In Frechilla, as soon as we approach the town, we find an imposing temple with an impressive bell tower 50 m high, it is a building from 1533 by the architect Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón. It is dedicated to Santa María, currently it is the parish church of the town, being classified as a Historic-Artistic Monument. The church was rebuilt in 1620, with the opinion of Francisco de Ruaves, after a terrifying fire that devastated a large part of the building.

It boasts various artistic styles. It preserves a Gothic and a Plateresque façade, although the main scenic actor of the monument is the proto-baroque. The interior is made up of a single nave of considerable dimensions, with a transept and holes for the side altars. It has a monumental baroque main altarpiece without gilding of great beauty built by Juan Manuel Becerril in 1777. The cult nave stands out towards the roof with 24 m high and 15 m wide. In addition, its walls preserve an altarpiece that displays a magnificent Gothic Calvary from the 16th century. It maintains excellent stalls in the choir, as well as sculptures of the sleeping Child Jesus and a magnificent chalice-monstrance from the 17th century.

As in the great temples of the neighboring towns of the Tierra de Campos region, in the church of Santa María the organ stands out, the work of Antonio Martínez, built in 1778. Musical instrument recently restored, being reopened for the melodious chords that have arisen from the virtuous hands of the great French master living in the region, Francis Chapelet.
