Eglise abbatiale de Méobecq
L'église abbatiale date du XIe siècle tandis que les bâtiments
claustraux sont du XVe siècle. L'abbaye bénédictine fut fondée sous le règne de
Dagobert (sans doute en 632), par l'ermite Saint-Cyran. Au XVIe siècle,
l'abbaye fut pillée et en grande partie détruite par les armées du prince de
Condé, en 1568-1569. Les difficultés spirituelles et matérielles, conduisirent
à la suppression de l'abbaye en 1673. L'église devint alors paroissiale et les
bâtiments monastiques, enfermés dans une double enceinte, étaient promis à la
destruction. A l'est se trouvaient les logis des officiers claustraux formés
d'une série de maisons séparées, pouvant dater du XVe siècle.

Abbey Church
of Meobecq
The abbey church dates from the 11th century while the
monastic buildings are from the 15th century. The Benedictine abbey was founded
under the reign of Dagobert (probably in 632), by the hermit Saint-Cyran.
In the 16th century, the abbey was looted and largely
destroyed by the armies of the Prince of Condé, in 1568-1569. Spiritual and
material difficulties led to the abolition of the abbey in 1673. The church
then became parochial and the monastic buildings, enclosed in a double
enclosure, were destined for destruction. To the east were the dwellings of the
monastic officers formed of a series of separate houses, which may date from
the 15th century.
