This statue stands at the gravesite of famed Sioux War Chief Tatanka Iyotake, AKA Chief Sitting Bull, on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Origianlly buried at Fort Yatres ND, his body was exhumed and reburied here in 1953. The grave is marked with this sculptural tombstone, which is listed in the SIRIS Database.

SUMMARY:

Bust of Sitting Bull stands on a plain, tall pedestal. His hair is in two long braids, and two feathers extend from the back of his head. A peace pipe lies horizontally at the base of the bust, as though the figure is cradling it in his arms.
