Coincidiendo con el paso de la hermandad de la Santa Cruz por la Avenida del Decano, el Ayuntamiento de Punta Umbría inauguró la reconstrucción de la Ermita del Calé. Ante la presencia de miles de romeros, quedaba descubierta la réplica de este antiguo santuario, lugar en el que antaño se celebraba la romería de la localidad costera.
Se trata de un compromiso del Consistorio local con la Hermandad de la Santa Cruz, "que ya se ha materializado", destaca el primer edil, Gonzalo Rodríguez Nevado. La iniciativa partió de dos devotos del Santo Madero, Manuel Hernández Rul y Diego Ramírez López, que trasladaron a la junta de gobierno de la Hermandad la voluntad de volver a construirla.
En palabras del presidente de la Santa Cruz, Alejandro Riera, "es un hecho histórico que hay que agradecerle al Ayuntamiento y a estas dos personas, que han insistido mucho para que se hiciera". Riera añadió que "es un monumento de Punta Umbría que no podía desaparecer en el olvido, porque por ese punto ha pasado la Cruz muchísimos años y marca una tradición en el pueblo".
El alcalde afirma asimismo, en relación con la romería, que "no nos vamos a quedar ahí, porque tenemos otros muchos proyectos en marcha, como el de la casa hermandad, que engrandecerán nuestra fiesta de la Cruz".

Fomento del empleo
Los trabajadores que han levantado el santuario forman parte del Almacén Municipal y, en su mayoría, pertenecen al Plan Memta.
Rodríguez Nevado explica que esta iniciativa supone también "un importante impulso a la hora de generar empleo y de seguir luchando, con todas las herramientas de que disponemos, frente a la situación de crisis económica mundial". Además el primer edil resaltó "la apuesta del consistorio por la recuperación de las tradiciones locales y el impulso que se les está dando".

Homenajes
En el plano religioso y festivo, tras llegar al recinto de la Norieta el viernes, los cruceños de Punta Umbría disfrutaron de la actuación de 'Raya Real' en la noche del sábado.
Los romeros puntaumbrieños prosiguieron el domingo con su romería. De este modo, la Hermandad de la Santa Cruz preparó un amplio programa de actos, que comenzó a las 12,00 horas de la mañana con una recepción con la Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios de Aljaraque.
Tras la tradicional misa del mediodía, tuvo lugar la ofrenda de flores y la elección del Hermano Mayor 2010 a las 18.00 horas de la tarde.
A partir de las 20.00, la Santa Cruz procesionó por las calles del recinto, y los actos del domingo se acabaron con la tradicional noche romera en la Plaza Pedro Martín.
