The current plan of this building dates from the 18th century, on the remains of a previous one, begun to be built in the middle of the 16th century, being modified due to the falls of the bells due to a strong blizzard, in 1713, and due to the collapse of the bell tower during the Lisbon earthquake, 1755. The last major reconstruction took place after the Civil War.

The church is made up of a single nave, covered with a simple wooden framework, and a transept. Next to the gospel two autonomous chapels are attached. At the head the chapel of the titular image was built in 1960, after expanding the temple with the transept, in 1950. On the side of the epistle, the sacramental chapel, sacristy and office were added. Outside, the tower stands out, located on the façade, built in 1757 by Joaquín Herrera according to a project by Pedro de San Martín. It consists of a smooth shaft with two arrow slits, a body of bells with one opening on each side, and a pyramidal capital on an octagonal drum. The temple had been installed attached to an old tower-watchtower around the 16th century, whose factory, due to the vicissitudes of time, ended up disappearing for the most part.

The chapel located at the foot of the gospel side, today dedicated to the Baptismal Chapel, opens onto the nave through a semicircular arch. In the center is the baptismal font, made of white marble, whose cup rests on a shaft in its upper half with a balustrade, and cylindrical in its lower part, on a base typical of a column. An image of Jesús Nazareno is venerated in a niche, with his hands tied like a captive, life-size and somewhat crude, possibly from the 19th century. Next to it, a large painting of the descent of Jesus from the Cross from the same period.
