La Ermita de San Sebastián fue edificada en 1.679, con las limosnas y donativos de los paduleños, como muestra de agradecimiento a su patrón por haberles librado de la plaga de "peste" que asoló la comarca del Valle de Lecrín y de la que Padul se libró.
Su estilo arquitectónico es una mezcla del mudéjar y el barroco, creando una estructura sencilla de planta es rectangular. En esta ermita se encuentra la imagen de San Sebastián y la de la Virgen de las Angustias, los dos patrones de este pueblo y justo enfrente de ellos, la entrada principal, enmarcada por un arco de medio punto y precedida por una cruz de piedra.
Cada 19 y 20 de enero la población de Padul celebra el día de su patrón San Sebastián. Durante la tarde del 19 de enero, la tradición lleva a todos los paduleños y paduleñas a los cerros y montes colindantes para recoger leña con la que posteriormente hacen hogueras en varios puntos y calles del pueblo.
En la noche del 19 de enero, la imagen del patrón San Sebastián, junto a la imagen de la Virgen de los Remedios, es transportada desde la Ermita a la Iglesia Santa María la Mayor. A la salida de la puerta de la Ermita, habitantes y visitantes cantan, al unísono, el solemne himno de San Sebastián.
En la mañana del 20 de enero, esta vez con salida desde la Iglesia, el Santo recorre Padul, junto a las lumbres y entre explosiones de escopetas y cohetes.
Junto a la Ermita, se encontraba un convento, actualmente aulario para la preparación de las enseñanzas cristianas como catequesis y otras reuniones.
