Zakariae M., arrested last Thursday after breaking into the Basilica of Pilar screaming and flying a Koran while the afternoon mass was being celebrated, was released this Friday. The 26-year-old was arrested for a crime of resistance to law enforcement officers and another against religious feelings. Judge Rafael Lasala, on duty, decreed his provisional release pending trial for the aforementioned crimes.
According to this newspaper, Zakariae M. invoked his right not to testify. Before, he was examined by the forensic doctor, who determined that he apparently does not suffer from any mental disorders.
The neighbor of Zaragoza entered the basilica with a copy of the Koran and walked inside it screaming with him in his hand and calling "unfaithful" those who attended the mass at 6:00 p.m., when the office that was being held at the high altar was about to end.
The young man shouted his will to climb one of the temple towers to "announce Islam," while shouting: "Dead your God is false. You are all unfaithful" and similar phrases. However, a security guard thwarted his intentions and took him to the square, where he continued to cast proclamations, left the copy of the Koran in the outer relief of the Virgin sculpted by Pablo Serrano and threw his passport.
