The world , according to the CEO of the Jumeirah Group, which owns the iconic sail-shaped building.
The legendary property was dubbed the world's first seven-star hotel by a British journalist when it officially opened on December 1, 1999.
"While the establishment was not expected to be very profitable, but rather that it would be an instantly recognizable icon of the city of Dubai, in the same way that the Eiffel Tower is in Paris and the Statue of Liberty in New York , but this has not been the case", declared the Portuguese José Silva to the Arabian Business portal in an interview in the presidential suite of the emblematic hotel.
“It is very profitable. It is true that some icons never really become profitable, but this is one of the most productive hotels I know of , ”Silva said, without giving specific figures.
“We are not sharing the numbers . I can tell you that it is as profitable as any large luxury hotel in the world, if not more profitable,” he added.
Jumeirah Group's parent company, Dubai Holding, does not provide a breakdown of earnings and revenue for its various sectors. In February 2017, his latest financial results announcement, he reported that his business group, Dubai Holding Commercial Operations Group, of which Jumeirah is a part, saw net profit rise 8 percent to Dh6.32 billion.
($1.72 billion) for the year ended December 31, 2016 and revenue increased 16 percent to Dh16.84 billion over the same period.
The hotel has 201 suites, ranging in size from 170 to 780 square meters. Standing 321 meters tall and situated on an artificial island 280 meters off the coast of Dubai, construction began on the hotel in 1994 and opened in 1999. Earlier this month it turned 20.
