Está construida sensiblemente por encima del nivel de la calle, con lo cual deja un espacio a modo de porche a su entrada, que es aprovechado como pequeño parterre, y que conforma en su parte baja unos poyos a modo de bancos, decorados con azulejos. Se trata de una ermita de planta rectangular y cubierta de tejado a dos aguas, aunque este no se aprecia desde la calle. En su fachada domina la portada con el gran vano de medio punto, recercado con moldura. Sobre esta queda rematada con una especie de espadaña de ladrillo que acoge en su interior un pequeño campanillo. Contrasta el encalado de la fachada con el ladrillo de la espadaña, que además se ve adornada con piñas de remate, así como de una pequeña cruz de forja coronando este cuerpo. En su interior hay un interesante retablo y se conservan imágenes que procesionan en Semana Santa.
Parece ser que la construcción primitiva se remonta, al igual que la gemela ermita de San Sebastián a finales del siglo XVI, o a principios del XVII. San Roque es junto a San Vicente Ferrer, copatrono de Lanjarón. Es, con San Sebastián. muy venerado desde antaño en el pueblo, quizás y sobre todo a raíz de catástrofes tales como epidemias, o del terrible terremoto de finales del siglo XIX.
Está inserta en pleno casco urbano, concretamente en la calle principal, junto al lugar en el que hacen su parada los autobuses de línea.
San Sebastián nunca renegó de su fe en Dios, por lo que ordenaron acribillarlo de flechas en zonas no vitales para que muriese lentamente. La talla ubicada en la capilla de la ermita de San Sebastián muestra su martirio.
Cuentan que la construcción de la ermita se inició con un donativo de un peregrino que fue en busca de un favor del santo. Posteriormente, a principios del siglo XIX se reconstruyó, haciéndola más grande. La tranquilidad que este espacio transmite sólo se ve interrumpida el 20 de enero, día de la fiesta en honor a su patrón, en el que todos los lanjaronenses acuden a ella para sacarle en procesión.
