La iglesia de Bubión se erigió sobre una mezquita. Se terminó de construir en torno a 1570. Apenas 9 años después de estar terminado, el templo fue quemado durante la rebelión de los moriscos. A principios del siglo XVII se rehizo, mientras duraron las obras, las misas se celebraron en la sacristía. Posiblemente esta nueva iglesia fue diseñada por Ambrosio de Vico. Entre los años 1693 y 1719 el templo se reconstruyó nuevamente.
En 1804 los terremotos destruyeron gran parte de la iglesia. El arquitecto natural de Nieles, Nicolás de Funes, reedificó el templo conservando las líneas de la iglesia primitiva. Según la descripción que da Pascual Madoz en el siglo XIX, aquí se daba culto a San Sebastián ya San Francisco de Paula. Además añade Madoz
…en ella había un lienzo magnífico, admiración de cuantos lo veían, en el que había pintado aves de todas las especies, con una propiedad sorprendente; y este cuadro fue mandado borrar con cal por D. Antonio Pagés, cura del pueblo por los años 1826 y 27, de quien se conservan en él tristes recuerdos.
La portada de la iglesia de la Virgen del Rosario de Bubión es sencilla, de orden toscano. Un arco de medio punto, enmarcado con entablamento, pilastras, y un óculo en la parte superior para dar luz al coro, nos dan la bienvenida al templo.
La Iglesia es de una sola nave, cubierta con armadura. Cuenta con una capilla mayor de planta cuadrada y sin retablo, que se sitúa tras un arco toral, y su cubierta es una bóveda vaída.
El presbiterio está presidido por una imagen de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, más abajo un Crucificado ya ambos lados, la Virgen de las Angustias y San Sebastián.
En los muros de la nave y del presbiterio se encuentran varias imágenes. Entre las piezas más destacadas están un conjunto de dos imágenes de San José y el Niño que hace ademán de agarrar la mano. Esta obra es atribuida al artista Alonso de Mena, situando la imagen en torno al segundo cuarto del siglo XVII.
Adosada al lado del Evangelio de la nave se levanta una torre mudéjar, de planta cuadrada y tres cuerpos. El campanario, con dos campanas, presenta un vano con arco de medio punto en cada lateral, y se cubre con un tejado a cuatro aguas. La torre fue en sus orígenes una torre nazarí, que fue responsable de baluarte a los seguidores de Abén Humeya, durante la rebelión de los moriscos en la Alpujarra.
La torre tiene su leyenda, según cuenta el acervo popular, en el cuarto que hay a mano derecha subiendo la torre, estuvo encerrada una mora. De vez en cuando una mano negra sale por la puerta, y que al que se atreva a tocar la puerta en ese momento, el espectro de la cautiva mora le entrega el tesoro que custodia.

The Bubión church was built on a mosque. Its construction was completed around 1570. Barely 9 years after its completion, the temple was burned down during the rebellion of the Moors. At the beginning of the 17th century it was redone, while the works lasted, masses were celebrated in the sacristy. Possibly this new church was designed by Ambrosio de Vico. Between the years 1693 and 1719 the temple was rebuilt.
In 1804 earthquakes destroyed a large part of the church. The natural architect of Nieles, Nicolás de Funes, rebuilt the temple preserving the lines of the primitive church. According to the description given by Pascual Madoz in the 19th century, San Sebastián and San Francisco de Paula were worshiped here. In addition, Madoz adds
…in it was a magnificent canvas, admired by all who saw it, on which birds of all species were painted, with surprising propriety; and this painting was ordered to be erased with lime by D. Antonio Pagés, parish priest of the town in the years 1826 and 27, of whom sad memories are preserved in it.
The doorway of the church of the Virgen del Rosario de Bubión is simple, of the Tuscan order. A semicircular arch, framed with entablature, pilasters and an oculus at the top to give light to the choir, welcome us to the temple.
The Church has a single nave, covered with armor. It has a main chapel with a square floor plan and no altarpiece, which is located behind a main arch, and its roof is a hollow vault.
The presbytery is presided over by an image of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, below a Crucified and on both sides, the Virgen de las Angustias and San Sebastián.
On the walls of the nave and the presbytery there are several images. Among the most outstanding pieces are a set of two images of Saint Joseph and the Child who makes a gesture of grasping the hand. This work is attributed to the artist Alonso de Mena, placing the image around the second quarter of the 17th century.
Attached to the Gospel side of the nave stands a Mudejar tower, with a square plan and three bodies. The bell tower, with two bells, has a bay with a semicircular arch on each side, and is covered with a four-sided roof. The tower was originally a Nasrid tower, which was responsible as a bulwark for the followers of Abén Humeya, during the Moorish rebellion in the Alpujarra.
The tower has its legend, according to the popular heritage, in the room on the right hand side going up the tower, a Moorish woman was locked up. From time to time a black hand comes out of the door, and whoever dares to knock on the door at that moment, the specter of the captive Moorish hands over the treasure it guards.
