The National Votes for Women Trail commemorate sites on the road to the 19th Amendment. This marker is places on the site where Augusta Hunt hosted the Maine Woman Suffrage Association meeting in February 1916 that led to a statewide referendum on the establishing the right of women to vote. This led to the gathering of signatures for a voting referendum and the legislature of Maine approving 19th Amendment to the Constitution in 1919 giving women the right to vote.
The marker is located near the site of the home of Augusta Hunt which was located at 165 State Street in Portland, ME.
