he Pazo Torres de Agrelo, in Redondela, is located within the aeronautical easement of the Vigo airport , which forces it to ask for permission every time it launches balloons or fireworks at wedding receptions. The festivities of this manor are held ten kilometers from the terminal but the pyrotechnic objects enter the radar of the Peinador control tower. For this reason, minutes before starting a pyrotechnic display, the bride and groom have to request the green light from Aena's Operational Security so as not to endanger the landings.

This is an example of what it entails to be within the aeronautical servitude of Peinador. Pazo sources explained that future spouses must request authorization one month before the wedding ceremony on the official Aena website. After registration and approval, on the appointed day they contact the controllers again to confirm that the air corridor is clear and coordinate the operation.

Permission is granted for balloons and palenque bombs but not for flying lanterns, which are prohibited, according to sources from the manor. They clarify that the lanterns are a danger because they are made of paper and, once lit, there is a risk that they will get caught in the trees if the wind pushes them.

Airport sources confirm that the organizers of these festivities must follow a procedure long before the launch. "They have to talk to Aviation Operational Security, send an email and wait for them to reply," they say.

Surveillance of the aeronautical easements of Peinador is carried out by the Drones Unit of the Pontevedra Civil Guard Command, integrated into the Pegaso team, and based in the Fiscal and Borders Company. They control 21 municipalities whose easement affects the Vigo airport and another three (Silleda, A Estrada and Vila de Cruces), which are in the area affected by the Lavacolla terminal in Santiago . These agents control from the tower cranes works that were placed without authorization and that affect that easement, such as the shooting of fireworks, forest burning or wedding celebrations that may cause problems to air traffic.

If the guests of the wedding banquet or their photographer wanted to fly a drone to record the event, they would also have to notify Peinador at the beginning and end of the operation, provided that there is no prohibition in the area.

In the Enaire Drones application , several aerial easement circles are displayed around the airport and serve as a guide for individuals and authorities. The outer circle is what controls the control tower and users must coordinate with the operators. In smaller areas, you have to coordinate with Aena, which has other security requirements. In this case, a square area covers the controlled airspace of Peinador that extends to O Coto, in Redondela, the town of O Porriño, the Castrelos park and the outskirts of Ponteareas. Drone flight is not allowed, except if it is carried out from an infrastructure for remote control aircraft coordinated with the aerodrome and the air traffic service provider. A wider circle reaches Navia and Arcade.

“Operators can ask them to wait five minutes because a plane is approaching”
The Drones Unit of the Pegaso team ensures compliance in the aeronautical easement of Peinador

The Pegaso Team of the Civil Guard has, among its missions, to control and supervise aerial activities, such as the shooting of fireworks in Bouzas or Moaña because they are within the aeronautical easement of the Peinador airport. “Before launching them, the artificer has to contact the control tower and they can tell him to wait five minutes because a plane is coming,” says a member of the Pegaso team. “In the Bouzas fires, the National Police controls the pyrotechnic material and we control what affects the operation of the airport to see that it meets the requirements and does not alter air navigation,” adds an agent. "The airport only tells you if the operation can be done safely or not because at that moment there is air traffic," he stresses.

The agents explain that the aeronautical easement affects the municipalities near Peinador, such as Redondela. «Many places that hold traditional weddings and banquets are within the airport's servitude zone, if the bride and groom want to launch artifacts they have to cover a document and coordinate with the control tower. It has to be done in a few hours and the tower can ask you to wait because there is an airplane approaching or they can tell you to go ahead. It is something mandatory, which also affects drone flights, ”says a Pegaso team commander.

From the Drones Unit, they explain that to fly an unmanned aircraft, individuals and authorities must coordinate according to the flight area. Coordination with the three air traffic service providers (Enaire, Saerco and Ferronats ) in the affected area at the Vigo and Santiago airports, and with the heliports of the Xunta and the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital stand out.
