The Nix (Nykorin) is a dangerous sea creature that lures people close, before dragging them into the lake. It can take many forms, but often as a beautiful grey horse. It is in many lakes, but here it is Leitisvatn also called Sørvágsvatn.
Its beauty tempts people to touch it. But when they do, they get stuck and are trapped, after which Nykorin drag them under the water and drowns them.
The Nykurin´s weakness is that if someone calls its name aloud, the creature will lose all of its power and retreat to the depths from which it came.
On the main road to the airport, you drive past the lake where the Nix is located. There is a small exit where you can drive towards the lake and find a parking space.
The sculpture Nykorin (The Nix) can be seen near the shore of the lake. It is an approximately 5 m high metal sculpture that immediately represents a horse. The sculpture was made by the Faroese artist Pól Skarðenni and was placed in the lake in November 2017.
In the evening, the horse is illuminated by floodlights in varying colors.
