First Congregational Church of Canton Center, CT dates back to 1750 when the First Ecclesiastical Society of West Simsbury, which is now Canton, was organized. Their first church was built in 1763. The present church was constructed on the same site in 1814.

The two story high Federal style church has a projecting entry block which is three bays wide and one bay deep. A set of steps leads up to a central double door entrance flanked by two single door entrances. Above all doors are semi-circular multi-pane windows. On the upper level of the central bay is a palladian style window. The other two bays have a 5 by 8 pane double hung window.

Rising from the pediment and the gable roof is a square tower with a palladian style window. Above is a smaller belfry tower with louvered windows and topped with a weather vane.

The front of the main block of the church has 4 by 8 pane double hung windows at both the lower and upper level. The sides of the building are five bays wide. The north side has 4 by 8 pane double hung windows at both the lower and upper level. The south side has the same arrangement of windows; except the lower level of the fifth bay is attached an addition to the church which extends to the south.
