De Lommelse Sahara (in het Nederlands: Lommelse Sahara) is een natuurgebied met een landschap bestaande uit duinen en zand, met een oppervlakte van 193 hectare, en gelegen op het grondgebied van de Belgische gemeente Lommel (provincie Limburg). Het gebied is geclassificeerd als Natura 2000.

Het park dankt zijn bestaan ??aan de vervuiling van de Lommelse Metallurgische Maatschappij: aan het begin van de 20e eeuw verwierf een Duitse familie het oorspronkelijk door heide bevolkte land om er een zinkfabriek op te zetten, die de vegetatie vernietigde. Zon, wind en zand voltooiden toen de vorming van een woestijn. Na enkele decennia plantten de lokale autoriteiten coniferen aan om het zand te stabiliseren.

In het midden van dit reservaat ligt een meer omringd door pijnbomen. Dit terrein maakt deel uit van het Regionaal Landschap (nl) “Lower Kempen (nl)”. De Lommelois Sahara ligt in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van het Campinois-kanaal.

In 2013 werd een dertig meter hoge uitkijktoren gebouwd voor een bedrag van € 342.000.

The Sahara of Lommel (in Dutch: Lommelse Sahara) is a nature reserve with a landscape composed of dunes and sand, with an area of ??193 hectares, and located on the territory of the Belgian municipality of Lommel (province of Limburg). The area is classified Natura 2000.

The park owes its existence to the pollution of the Lommel Metallurgical Society: at the beginning of the 20th century, a German family acquired the land originally populated by heather to set up a zinc factory, which destroyed the vegetation. Sun, wind and sand then completed the formation of a desert. After a few decades, the local authorities planted conifers to stabilize the sand.

In the center of this reserve is a lake surrounded by pine trees. This site is part of the Regionaal Landschap (nl) (Regional landscape) “Lower Kempen (nl)”. The Lommelois Sahara is located in the immediate vicinity of the Campinois Canal.

A thirty-meter high observation tower was built in 2013, at a cost of €342,000.

Le Sahara de Lommel (en néerlandais : Lommelse Sahara) est une réserve naturelle au paysage composé de dunes et de sable, d'une superficie de 193 hectares, et située sur le territoire de la commune belge de Lommel (province de Limbourg). La zone est classée Natura 2000.

Le parc doit son existence à la pollution de la Société métallurgique de Lommel : au début du XXe siècle, une famille allemande a acquis les terres originellement peuplées de bruyère pour y implanter une usine de zinc, laquelle a détruit la végétation. Le soleil, le vent et le sable ont ensuite parachevé la formation d'un désert. Après quelques décennies, les autorités locales ont planté des conifères afin de stabiliser le sable.

Au centre de cette réserve se trouve un lac entouré de pins. Ce site fait partie de la Regionaal Landschap (nl) (Paysage régional) « Basse Campine (nl) ». Le Sahara lommelois est situé dans le voisinage immédiat du Canal campinois.

Une tour d'observation de trente mètres de haut est construite en 2013, pour un coût de 342 000 €.
